Removing dust with an air purifier

Removing dust with an air purifier

Yes, an air purifier removes all dust particles from the air and gives you fresh air to breathe. Now, it is natural for you to think How do air purifiers work for dust.

do air purifiers work for dust

Dust is available in both indoor and outdoor. It is highly unpleasant to live in a dusty environment. No matter which region of earth you are living in, you can’t escape the dust. Dust enters your home from outside and settles on the surface of all household items.

Breathing dust polluted air for a long time can cause allergies, chronic breathing and lung problems. So, the best way to combat dust is to use an air purifier.

But at first, we need to know a little about dust to understand the mechanism of an air purifier.

Well, dust is a tiny solid matter made up of fine particles. It is consisting of particles in the atmosphere like soil, dust carried by the wind, plant pollen, animal hairs, textile fiber, pollutions, volcanic eruptions and minerals from outdoor soil. Sometimes a specific amount of dead skin is considered dust. It is almost invisible to the naked eyes.

According to a study conducted by the Environmental Science and Technology journal, it is found that 60% of dust is created outdoor and enter your house.

When dust enters your home, it floats around in the air and gets settle in all surfaces of your home like furniture, bedding, carpets, cushions, clothing, and other household items.

Dust particles can range in different sizes. For example Dust mites, extremely tiny to our eyes but large in terms of dust. It can range 100-300 microns in size. Pollen range from relatively large as 1000 microns to size as small as 10 microns. Smokes and fumes can range from 4 to 0.01 microns, etc.

Though dust seems harmless, but dust inhalation for a long time can be dangerous to your health. It can cause harm to your respiratory system. Lung helps in respiration. It is the natural defense mechanism of the human body. Due to the dust inhalation, our lungs can be affected badly.

Some of the familiar disease of the lung due to dust are:

  • Hard metal disease
  • Asbestosis
  • Siderosis
  • Silicosis
  • Coal pneumoconiosis

So, we need an air purifier to protect our health from different diseases.

How does Air purifier helps get rid of dust?

air purifier

Dust is present in every corner of our house. It is a never-ending problem. It is not only annoying but also toxic for us to live in a dusty environment. So, an air purifier can help us get rid of harmful dust particles from the air.

These tiny invisible particles float around indoors with air until they settle on a convenient surface in your home. So, when we add an air purifier in our home, most of these particles get trapped inside the filter before they have the time to settle.

An Air purifier with a True HEPA filter can trap 99.97% of airborne particles from the air as small 0.3 microns in size. The size 0.3 micron was selected because it is the toughest size to trap and the size is easily puffed into the lungs. So, a True HEPA filter helps you to effectively control and reduce dust indoors.

Air purifier consists of filter or multiple filters and a fan that helps in air suction and circulating fresh air in your room. When air moves through the filter, air pollutants and dust particles are trapped in the fibers and clean air comes outside of an air purifier.

Though an Air purifier is designed in a way to capture all airborne dust particles in its filter and return pollution-free air in your indoor. But an air purifier is not completely 100% able to reduce dust from your home. It is only effective in removing airborne particles. But an air purifier can’t clean the dust pollutant that settled in different surfaces of your home.

However, you can take some steps in removing dust in those surfaces by yourself such as

  • Regular dusting of household items and furniture with microfiber cloths.
  • Change and wash your bedding once a week.
  • Vacuum clean twice a week.
  • Sweep the floors often in a week.
  • Beat your carpets, rugs, and cushion once in a month.
  • Keep your closets tidy.
  • Keep your wall clean from up to down.

So along with an Air purifier, these steps mentioned above will help you a lot in reducing dust from your home.

Now that you have the answer to “Do air purifiers work for dust?” then I hope you can understand the importance of an Air purifier in your home to cutaway dust and pollutants from the air.
