How to clean a carbon filter

How to Clean a Carbon Filter To clean a carbon filter properly you need to follow the steps below

Step: 1. Safety First!

To clean an activated carbon filter you need to wear a protective mask and gloves. And at this moment, it is also important to wear a mask if you want to stay away from coronavirus, allergies, and asthma

Step: 2. Unplug the unit

Before starting to clean your filter, you should turn off and unplug the unit.

Step: 3. Out of the house

If an uncleaned air purifier is opened in your house then the odor that has accumulated in the activated carbon filter spreads all over the house, and the indoor environment will have an unwanted odor.

Step: 4. Wipe debris from the outside

For reasons like using it for many days. Dust naturally settles on the outside of your filter. To make sure your house is clean, you should consider cleaning the casing as much as the activated carbon filter. And to achieve that, take a piece of cloth and wipe it.

Step: 5. Isolate all filter

Next, you should disassemble all filters before cleaning the activated carbon filter.

Step: 6. Clean Pre-filter

After disassembling all the air filters, firstly clean the pre-filter if it is not clean. In that case, keep the washable pre-filter under the faucet and continue until the water runs clear. Also, you can use a vacuum cleaner to suck most of the debris. Finally, you should dry completely before reinstalling.

Step: 7. Clean HEPA Filter

Clean HEPA Filter If your HEPA filter is not clean then you should clean your HEPA filter.

In that case, before attempting to clean you should know whether this filter is washable or not?

If this filter is washable then you can clean it with soapy water or lukewarm water and the manufacturers also recommend it.

And just in case, the filter is non-washable then you can vacuum or blower it.

Step: 8. Clean Activated Carbon Filter

When you will finish cleaning the Pre-filter and HEPA filter, now you should give your attention to clean the carbon filter. And you came here specifically to know about it.

Carbon pellets generally do not get dirty, so you don’t need to use a brush or a vacuum to clean the activated carbon filter. Because this type of air filter is only for synthesizing (not absorbing) smells and odors, not for capturing particles. The trapping of particles is the work of the Pre-filter. For this reason, you don’t need to rinse the carbon filter.

I will recommend that the best way to “clean” the carbon air filter is to leave it directly to the sunlight. But not a long time. Only an hour or two at most.

Finally, replace the rivets with bolts, and you will get yourself a filter that will work just as good as new.

Can Activated carbon be reused? And how often should it be replaced?

You can recycle the used for not more than two or three times. And they should be replaced every 3 to 4 weeks as it loses its effectiveness after this time.

How long does an activated carbon filter last?

An activated carbon filter is needed to be changed after 1.5 -2 years usually. But it depends on the carbon quality, the use (more or less), and in which place it is used!

Conclusion

An activated carbon filter will release you from the stress of dealing with odors. In fact, even for an odor-free environment, you should use an Activated Carbon Filter.

Besides, to make sure the carbon filter is working very effectively, clean it regularly. This will also save you money!

I sincerely hope you have got the answers to your questions. And finally, if you maintain all the above steps on how to clean activate carbon filter then all you will breathe is odor-free air!
