The versatile angle grinder is used for many different purposes. Adjust proper saw blade for an angle grinder to achieve a variety of different works. You can use the grinder to clean metal. In addition, removing paint can also be done with it. Removing excess part from any material is easy with an angle grinder.

The angle grinder is even used for sharpening purpose. With the right method, you can sharpen different things including saw blades.

Furthermore, grinding metal and cutting through tiles or concrete are works that the angle grinder is able to complete. That is why it is widely used in metalworking and in construction works.

For doing lighter jobs or for more precision, the pneumatic grinder is the first choice since it the discs for it are comparatively smaller. Even though they might lightweight and carry smaller discs, they are still pretty powerful to get the job done.

To use the grinder and get the service of many tools, all you need to do is install the right disc in the angle grinder. Here are a few discs and how you can use your angle grinder to get different works done.

Diamond wheel

You can install the dry-cut diamond wheel to cut through tile and even masonry. You can also go through stone, rebar, concrete, with this wheel attached to your grinder. But, this could be a bit too much work for an inexpensive tool. Therefore, it is better to get a powerful expensive one to complete this kind of heavy duty tasks.

Wood Discs

wood discs

Wood discs for angle grinder are used for cutting wood. There are different wood discs. All cut in their own ways, different from one another. Generally, the angle grinder is not so widely used in woodworking actually.

There is one problem with this material specific disc. It reduces the versatility of your grinder and bounds it to only cutting wood. But, the good news is that there are different types of wood discs. Therefore, you can get one which can cut other materials occasionally along with wood.

Grit Discs

These are very lightweight discs which are of the cheapest of angle grinder discs. Their exception to other discs is that they are a lot faster. They are also very thin as compared to other discs. You can cut through stones and even metals with the grit.

Wire wheel

I don’t think that anyone can get the most out of the angle grinder without using the wire wheel. If you wish to remove paint something then all you need to do is install the wire wheel to your grinder. Also, you can use this wheel to remove rust from different objects.

Furthermore, it can also be used for polishing. Metal cleaning is done with this attachment to the grinder. This wheel truly brings out the versatility of the angle grinder.

Also, the wire wheel or brush fits into tight spaces to help polish.

Metal cutoff wheel

By attaching the metal cutoff wheel, you can cut rod and bolts. Cutting the nails or other hard objects that are embedded in a material is possible with the metal cutoff wheel.

It is a great choice for rough cutting metal. Of course, there are other saws you can use to cut metal. But, the advantage with an angle grinder is that you can cut really fast.

Grinding wheel

As far as saw blade for angle grinder goes, the grinding wheel is very useful for saw blades. This is because it is used to sharpen saw blades and different types of material that need sharpening. You can use a grinding wheel with your angle grinder for general sharpening purposes.

The grinding wheel can sharpen pretty well. But, if you need even more sharpening then simply use a file (bastard file is recommended).

Remember to apply light pressure when you are sharpening. It is very easy to overheat metal with your grinder. For this reason, you should remain alert that you are not overheating the metal.

Tuck pointing wheel

tuck pointing wheel

Sure you can use a hammer to remove old mortar from the wall. But, using an angle grinder with the tuck pointing wheel is going to give a lot better result for you.

The advantage of using this wheel to remove old mortar is that it does not dislodge or damage the brick or wall. So, start using it to clean out old mortar joints.

These are some of the most useful and important angle grinder attachments. Of course, there are other attachments available to use with your angle grinder.

Safety tips

The grinder runs at a very fast speed. This makes it necessary for you to stay alert and take proper precautions.

  • Unplug whenever you change the angle grinder discs. Since angle grinder is used with a variety of different discs, you have to change to accomplish different works. So, unplug when you do change.
  • When removing old mortar, there can be a lot of dust. For such jobs, wearing goggles and gloves are recommended.
  • As the grinder will move at a fast pace, you should hold it with both hands. Attach the handle and grip as tight as you can with both hands.
  • Make sure that the workpiece does not move. Secure the workpiece and then start working.
  • Use the right blade for the right job. You don’t wanna start cutting metal with a wire brush, do you?

Keep in mind these safety tips for a safer use of your angle grinder.

Get the perfect angle grinder

A lot of people face this problem. They don’t know what to look for when choosing a grinder. There are some criteria for knowing which grinder will actually be best for you. Here are some tips for you to get the perfect angle grinder.

Motor Power

The motor determines the power of your grinder. The more the power, the better and easier the work is. Choose your motor depending on what type of work you are going to use the grinder for. If you wish to do heavy duty works then pick a grinder with more amperes.

Disc Size

You will be surprised to know that the size of the disc has a say on the motor power of the grinder. Generally, you will find pneumatic motor being used with the smaller discs. Again, figure out the job you want to do with the grinder and then choose the one with a disc size appropriate for your work.

Wheels & Accessories

Since the angle grinder is used with different attachments, you need to choose the one with more versatility. In addition to the motor, this is also one feature that you should keep an eye out for.

Comfortable for you

After assessing out the motor, disc size, etc. you should then choose the one that you are comfortable with. There are smaller and bigger angle grinders. I prefer the smaller ones over the big ones. But, you might feel otherwise. So, it depends on you. Whichever one you find more comfortable, go with it.

I hope that you can benefit out of this writing. And start making use of different saw blade for angle grinder. Moreover, keep using the grinder while taking proper precautions too.
