WHAT IS A CARBON FILTER?

The activated carbon filter was originally known as the HEGA (High-Efficiency Gas Absorption) filter and was used by the British Army in the First Chemical War.

Activated carbon filters, or activated charcoal filters, these filters consist of small pieces of block or carbon that increase the surface area and are treated to further perforate chemical compounds. It controls odors and smoke by chemical processes.

It removes gas molecules through the process of absorption. During absorption, contaminants stick to the outside of the activated carbon filter.

Though the activated carbon filter cannot remove fine particles such as dust, dust particles, pet openings, or pollen from the air.

Nonetheless, The activated carbon filter is often used in conjunction with the HEPA filter to capture other small particles like dust, lint, mold spores, pet peel, and pollen.

How does a carbon filter work?

Activated carbon filters have millions of pores. Through which harmful chemicals are removed from the area through absorption from a large surface area.

During the activated carbon absorption process, the mixtures in the air remain stable with the carbon in the surface area, competently removing contaminants from the air.

Absorption differs from absorption in form, in that the contaminant sticks to the outside of the carbon and does not remain in the structure.

How long does carbon filter last

An activated carbon filter is essential for the air purification system when it comes to any air purifiers but it usually lasts a short time.

Moreover, How long a carbon filter lasts depends on how you use it and where you use it.

It will last longer and longer if you use less and are in a better place.

And if you use too much and live in places with has a higher amount of airborne particles. Then it will not last long.

The activated carbon filter needs to be replaced every few months to become more efficient. It can be replaced between two to four weeks. If you ask me, Can Activated Carbon be reused? The easy answer is yes because after cleaning the carbon filter, you can reuse the filter completely. In spite of this, you can only reuse the Activated Carbon filter between two to three times maximum.

Afterward, you must replace the carbon filter so it can work against the smoke, odors, and chemicals more effectively. If your carbon filter hasn’t done much work when it comes to absorbing then you can easily leave it in direct sunlight for around 2 to 3 hours.

This also works if the carbon filter has gone through some tough times but if your filter has gone through too much, it is time for a switch. And you can’t shy away from how important it is to know how to clean the air purifier or other filters of an air purifier.

And we have got you covered there too, we have written an article that will guide you through all the steps you need to do while cleaning an air purifier!
